Quick Ways to Dress Up Your Home’s Curb Appeal

Whether you are selling your home or just want to have the best looking house on the block, you don’t have to invest in expensive or time-consuming projects. Try these quick and easy projects that will dress up your home's curb appeal and give potential buyers that perfect first impression!

Update the front door

To create a classic look, paint your front door with a glossy black or white. To show off your personality, use a deep red, blue, or another unexpected paint color. Consider spending a little more of your budget by replacing an outdated or worn entry with a completely new door package; opt for one with sidelights to truly update your home’s appearance.

Little touches go a long way

You may want to replace your porch light fixture with a stylish new sconce. Install new doorknobs and other front door hardware, and give your house numbers a whole new look by replacing them with a ceramic tile or a brass address plate. Extend the update to your mailbox by either painting or replacing it.

Stay consistent

No matter what accents you chose, stick to a consistent theme with all of your outdoor updates. Mixing classic brass accents with modern brushed nickel will only confuse the eye and diminish curb appeal. Be sure to use similar finishes throughout.

Kick it up a notch

Give the outside of a classically designed home an extra punch of personality! Focus on incorporating accents such as shutters and window boxes. Install a charming porch swing for another great addition to your home's curb appeal.

Quick Tip

A more contemporary home’s appeal can be enhanced by adding modern details such as poured concrete planter boxes along walkways, or by installing cable railing to porches and decks.

Modify outdoor lighting

Install outdoor lighting to show off your home to its best advantage once the sun goes down. Use fixtures such as solar-powered carriage lights along entryways for a classic look, or insert LED dot lights into stair treads to create a dramatic, modern statement. Strategically placed uplights are a great way to draw attention to landscaping details.

Add greenery

Create the illusion of a garden by filling pots and planters with greenery or flowering plants. Group a mix of ceramic and wooden vessels of varying sizes, colors, and heights on your porch or front deck, then plant with a profusion of flowers for a casual, welcoming look. Add seasonal appeal by filling planters with pastel blooms in the spring, or richly hued mums in the fall.

Regularly maintain your home's exterior

Of course, the easiest way ensure that the outside of your home is always looking its best is by staying on top of basic maintenance and upkeep. Broken and cracked walkways, overgrown landscaping, and peeling paint will only detract from overall curb appeal, and may even give the wrong impression of inside of your home before even seeing it.

Follow these tips, and you'll sell your home in no time!
